Daily Grind: Fresh onto the bean scene new delivery is coming to a coffee shop near you.
2021 is in full swing, we here at Boston Coffee Company are happy that things are slowly returning to normal. I would like to personally thank all of our loyal customers who have been coming to our shops everyday especially during these challenging times. Our priority is to make sure that you are ready to start your day and have what you need to take on the world.
Here's What Happened
In light of the news that one of our suppliers was not following organic fair trade coffee guidelines you may have seen that we are in a transition period. Last week we sent out a press release about what happened and how we are fixing the issue. I wanted to personally write a message to all of our customers so that you can hear what is happening directly from me. This blog post is a bit different from our normal blog posts, but I think it is important to take responsibility for what happened with our old supplier and welcome in our new direct supply delivery chain.
Meet Pedro Sanchez
This is Pedro Sanchez; he runs our newest coffee farm in the Andes mountains of Colombia. I personally made a trip to meet with Mr. Sanchez after my senior sourcing manager Paul Fieleg showed me a photo of his farm. The Sanchez family farm has been around for decades, and the care they put into the beans is the same care that we have about you. As a major coffee chain, it is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day business side of things and I want to return to make sure that you, the customer is satisfied with how we are doing. Our company started off with one location in Medford back in 1891, my grandfather owned the first shop and my father worked behind the counter. This started out as a family business and I wish to keep it that way. By merging our operation with the Sanchez family in Colombia we will maintain that family business way of serving coffee.

From the Bottom of My Heart
I have made many mistakes in the past, my biggest one was hiring our last supplier. That call was completely on me and I take full responsibility. I apologize to the families of the workers that were hurt and killed in the accident in the bean plant and I wish that something as tragic as that never happens again. We have severed ties with that company and have assisted the authorities in all aspects of the investigation to make sure that the people who were responsible for the poor treatment of those workers will be held responsible. I hold myself responsible and take that very seriously. This is why I have changed our whole strategy and delivery chain when it comes to bringing our coffee to a coffee shop near you. The new Sanchez family farm supplier will be a game changer in the coffee industry and I am proud that we are on the leading edge of this movement. This change in our company will start immediately and that cup of coffee you pick up this morning will be fresh from the Sanchez farm.
Sincerely,
Peter LaTrace, CEO Boston Coffee Company
